Building my network through Colorado College, one conversation at a time
31 Mar
In the past week, I’ve received emails and voice mails from four people connected to me through Colorado College. The requests include current students seeking advice, a recent grad who wants to run his start-up idea by me, and a professor who has a great idea for a web-based iniative that I could help develop. I am honored to know that I’m being thought of by my network—and this morning, I was reminded of some key ideas in Seth Godin’s book “Unleashing the Ideavirus” (a great book I picked up for a couple of dollars at a thrift store).
“The primary goal of a product or service is not just to satisfy the needs of one user. It has to deliver so much wow, be so cool, so neat and so productive that the user tells five friends.”
This book encourages us as marketers to create an environment where ideas can replicate and spread. I’ve tried to actively do this both virtually and in real-time with my networks locally, nationally and especially through my connections at the Colorado College. The pay-off is huge, as I now get to actively engage in dialogue with a variety of people in such meaningful ways.
I’m looking forward to sharing ideas with four new people, all connected to me through CC. Establishing this kind of word-of-mouth marketing takes time, but it’s easy to do when you practice authencity each and every day.

From the moment I laid eyes on Facebook, I was captivated by the potential of the Photos upload application. I use this extensively to showcase our work at 720MEDIA. Today I learned that 69 percent of Facebook’s monthly visitors worldwide either look at or upload photos. WOW – that’s a big number. Facebook increased the gap between its closest competitor (Photobucket in the U.S.) from 2.6 million monthly unique visitors to 10.8 million.
